💛 MacKenzie Scott Continues Her Amazing Legacy of Giving

While so many big-time billionaires are busy counting their wealth, MacKenzie Scott has made it her life’s mission to give hers away — faster and more effectively than almost anyone in history.

Last year, MacKenzie donated $7.2 billion to 186 organizations. In just one year. To put that in perspective: that's more than what some of the most well-known billionaires, like her ex-husband Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Larry Page, and Larry Ellison, have given away in their entire lives combined! In total, she has gifted more than $26 billion total since 2019, making her one of the most prolific philanthropists in American history.

Her latest gift: $42 million to Elizabeth City State University, a small historically Black college in North Carolina with about 2,500 students. The announcement landed as a surprise during the school's Founders Day ceremony last week — and the room erupted.

That surprise element is very much on brand. No press tour. No naming rights. No strings attached. She identifies organizations doing meaningful work for people who've been overlooked, and she simply writes the check — often the biggest one they've ever seen. The money is theirs to use however they decide is best.

Mackenzie has been characteristically direct about her approach. In her 2019 Giving Pledge letter, where she promised to give away half her fortune, she vowed: "My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won't wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty."

Most billionaires don’t think that way. The world could use a few more who do. 🔗 Read more

🏡 Single Women Just Hit a Historic Homeownership Milestone

Here's something worth raising a glass to this Women's History Month.

More than 20 million single women in America now own their own homes. That's a record high — and if you know even a little bit of the history, it's also a really big deal.

In 1974 — just 52 years ago — a single woman couldn't even get a mortgage without a man co-signing it. Today, 21% are homebuyers, second only to married couples. And among first-time buyers, nearly one in four is a single woman doing it entirely on her own.

What's driving it? Blood, sweat and savings. More college degrees. Rising incomes. And according to the National Association of Realtors, the number one reason single women push so hard to buy is stability — for themselves, their kids, and often the aging parents they're also helping care for. They're not just buying a home. They're building a foundation.

And the math is clear: the typical homeowner now has around $430,000 in net worth, compared to just $10,000 for the typical renter. Single women know these numbers—and they’re doing something about it. One house key at a time. 🔗 Read more

🧠 Paralyzed Man Types 22 Words a Minute — With His Mind

Imagine this. You can't move your arms. You can't speak. But you have a million things you want to say.

For people living with paralysis or ALS, that gap between thought and communication has meant years of frustrating, painfully slow workarounds. Now, scientists at Brown University and Massachusetts General Hospital just blew that gap wide open.

Researchers there implanted tiny sensors into the part of the brain that controls finger movement. Here's the wild part — even when your body can't move, your brain still tries to move your fingers when you look at a keyboard. Those signals are still firing. The implant picks them up and turns them into real keystrokes on a screen. No hands required.

In early trials, one participant — who also cannot speak — typed up to 22 words per minute with 98% accuracy. That's basically texting speed. From his brain. It’s also among the fastest a brain implant of this kind has ever achieved.

The best news? The brain doesn't need to learn a single new thing. Most of us have been typing on a QWERTY keyboard since middle school. That muscle memory is already stored up there — this implant just gives it a new outlet.

Much more research and testing is still needed, but for millions of people worldwide who've lost the ability to move or speak, a technology that turns thoughts directly into words isn't science fiction anymore. 🔗 Read more
