Let’s be honest — keeping up with the news today can be downright exhausting.
Between the endless negativity, outrage, and doomscrolling, it’s easy to feel like the world’s gone off the rails. We call it “the news blues” – that drained, discouraged feeling you get after one too many grim headlines.

That’s where The Bright Beat comes in.
Each week, we curate stories that inspire hope, spark joy, and remind you that goodness, progress, and kindness are still all around us. From small acts of humanity to big ideas changing the world for the better, we focus on what’s right — not what’s wrong.
Our mission is simple: to help you say goodbye to the “news blues” and start your week on a brighter note.
In journalism, a “beat” refers to a specific topic or area a reporter covers regularly. The word “bright” signifies hope, promise, and positivity. Put them together and you get The Bright Beat – a name that perfectly captures what this newsletter is all about – a space dedicated to stories that uplift rather than weigh you down.

Hi! I’m Danielle, a self-described news nerd and an aspiring optimist 😊.
I actually got my start in television news. My first job out of college was at a startup cable TV network in the mid-1990s called NewsTalk Television. Since then, I’ve built a successful 25-year career leading communications for major global companies across a range of industries. Along the way, I produced newsletters for a variety of audiences, honing the art of connecting people to stories that matter.
Recently though, I noticed something troubling. Outside of work, I found myself feeling increasingly anxious and disheartened every time I scrolled through my news feed or turned on the TV news. The endless stream of negativity was taking a toll on my outlook – and I knew I wasn’t alone.
That’s when I decided to create The Bright Beat – a different kind of newsletter. One that celebrates positivity, fosters connection, and helps readers see the brighter side of the world we live in. It’s become my passion project – a way to use my skills and experience to make a small but meaningful difference. I hope you get as much out of reading it as I get from creating it.
