Happy Sunday!
As usual, this week’s issue is pretty packed, but I'll admit, one story hit very close to home. We're featuring the very latest research on GLP-1 medications, and as someone who has personally experienced the benefits of these drugs for my loved ones and myself (down 46 pounds and seeing many health improvements), I found the findings genuinely exciting. Spoiler: the good news goes well beyond the scale.
Lots of other good things happening too. Let's get into it. 💛

📰 GOOD NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
💉 GLP-1 Drugs Are Racking Up Benefits Beyond the Scale
If you've been following the GLP-1 story — the class of drugs that includes Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound — you already know these medications have racked up an impressive list of health benefits beyond weight loss: better blood sugar, improved sleep apnea, kidney protection. But new research suggests the list isn't done yet, and the latest additions are big ones.
Researchers at Anglia Ruskin University dug into data from more than 90,000 patients across 11 major international clinical trials. What they found? People taking GLP-1 drugs were 13% less likely to experience serious heart problems like heart attacks and strokes compared to those who weren't taking them. And here's the real eyebrow-raiser — this isn't just a side effect of shedding pounds. The medication seems to be doing something directly, uniquely good for the heart — making weight loss look like a secondary perk. 🔗Read more
Then there’s the cancer breakthrough. A Cleveland Clinic study of more than 10,000 patients discovered that individuals taking GLP-1s after a cancer diagnosis were significantly less likely to see their disease spread. In fact, the risk of early-stage cancer progressing to advanced disease was cut by 50% for lung cancer patients and 43% for breast cancer patients. 🔗Read more
Scientists are careful to stress that more research is needed, and no doctor is prescribing these drugs specifically for heart or cancer protection just yet. But when study after study keeps turning up good news about the same family of medications? That's a story worth watching.
🏠 Gen Z is Cracking the Housing Market
If you've been told for years that young people are destined to be lifelong renters because of a chronic avocado toast habit, here's a plot twist worth celebrating: Gen Z is officially moving into the neighborhood — and they’re not renting.
New data from the National Association of Realtors shows that Gen Z buyers — adults roughly ages 18 to 26 — are making real inroads in the housing market, and doing it almost entirely on their own. A remarkable 53% of Gen Z buyers are purchasing homes solo — more than double the rate at which millennials were buying alone at the same age. And they're pulling it off while playing the real estate game on "hard mode" with sky-high prices and mortgage rates that won't budge.
So how are they pulling off this property magic? Creatively. Gen Z buyers are out-saving, out-hustling, and out-maneuvering a market that wasn't exactly rolling out the welcome mat. Many moved back into their childhood bedrooms after college to stockpile cash while others took on side gigs. They are also masterfully leveraging first-time buyer programs and down payment assistance options that previous generations completely slept on.
And here's a detail that might surprise you: single Gen Z women are leading the charge. They are buying homes at nearly double the rate of single Gen Z men — 35% compared to 18%. It's a remarkable shift that reflects higher college graduation rates among young women and a growing determination to build financial independence on their own terms.
To be fair, the overall market is still a steep climb and Gen Z makes up just 4% of the total buyer pie. But within that 4%? A generation that's been totally counted out is quietly unlocking their own front doors. 🔗Read more
🗑️ America Is a Lot Less Trashy Than It Used to Be
If you feel like your daily walks are looking a little brighter lately, it isn’t just your imagination. Keep America Beautiful just dropped its 2026 National Litter Study, and the results show that Americans are finally cleaning up their act.
According to the massive study, roadside and waterway litter across the United States has plummeted a whopping 34% since 2020. To put that into perspective, the average American's individual "litter share" dropped from 152 pieces of trash down to just 96.
Experts point to a powerful mix of eco-friendly packaging, sharper public education, local cleanup programs, and stricter enforcement. But perhaps the real secret weapon is a massive wave of public engagement from local businesses, community organizations, and everyday citizens. In fact, nearly 90% of Americans now say they feel a personal responsibility to reduce litter in their communities. As a result of this collective effort, long-standing eyesores like single-use plastics and cigarette butts are among the items rapidly vanishing from our landscape.
There’s still more ground to cover, but momentum like this is hard to ignore. It turns out that when a whole country decides to take pride in its streets, we can genuinely change the view. Talk about a clean sweep! 🔗Read more
