If you thought mRNA vaccine technology was a one-hit wonder for COVID-19, think again. A new personalized melanoma vaccine developed by Merck and Moderna just cleared its Phase 3 clinical trial — marking the very first time an mRNA cancer therapy has passed the late-stage finish line.

Unlike traditional vaccines that prevent infections, this shot — called Intismeran — works after surgery to stop skin cancer from coming back. The true magic, though, lies in its speed and personalization. Scientists sequence a patient’s removed tumor to map its unique genetic "fingerprint," encoding custom mRNA instructions in just weeks. When injected, it trains T-cells to hunt down up to 34 specific mutations unique to that individual's cancer.

When paired with the immunotherapy drug Keytruda, the custom shot significantly reduced the risk of melanoma returning or spreading compared to Keytruda alone. As Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel put it, "For many years, the idea of creating an mRNA treatment designed specifically for an individual patient's cancer was aspirational. We are now helping turn that vision into a reality."

So, what’s next? Because the mRNA manufacturing platform is so adaptable, researchers are already testing the vaccine against lung, bladder, and kidney cancers. Meanwhile, Merck and Moderna are engaging with global regulators to fast-track approvals — paving the way for it to be in oncology clinics as soon as 2027, and ushering in a brand-new era of personalized medicine where millions may never have to worry about their cancer returning again. 🔗Read more

Forget the old stereotype about youngsters slacking off in the basement—Gen Z is officially rewriting the American dream.

New business applications filed by the under-28 crowd jumped an eye-popping 66% this year compared to last, according to a new Bank of America Institute analysis. And they aren't relying on old-school playbooks, either. A separate study from payroll firm Gusto revealed that 71% of these young founders leveraged AI tools for their launches — using smart software for everything from coding full websites and automating customer service to drafting business plans over a single weekend.

"The barriers to entry are getting much lower," said Wharton professor Lori Rosenkopf, and the numbers back her up. This isn't just a story about kids with trust funds starting vanity side hustles, either — lower-income households now make up 25% of all new businesses, up from under 20% in 2020. AI is acting as the ultimate economic equalizer, letting solo founders run lean operations that punch way above their weight class.

Perhaps Columbia Business School professor Angela Lee put it best, noting that entrepreneurship is "democratizing" right in front of our eyes. Talk about hitting paydirt! A construction crew in Sint-Gillis-Dendermonde, Belgium just experienced what might be the single best afternoon in job-site history.

While excavating deep trenches for a new sewer line underneath a 19th-century former brewery, the workers hit something that definitely wasn't pipe. Among the crew was 18-year-old student Kobe, who initially thought they'd stumbled on a mundane stash of €1 coins. Then someone pulled a heavy, solid gold bar out of the mud. "It turned out to be a bit more than we thought," he told Belgian broadcaster VTM, in what might be the understatement of the year.

The full haul — a dazzling collection of gold coins, raw nuggets and officially numbered bullion bars worth an estimated €9 million (roughly $10 million USD) — was found hidden inside a bricked-in cellar wall. Local police quickly whisked the treasure off to a secure vault while pleading with overeager amateur treasure hunters to please, for the love of all that is shiny, stay off the property.

So, who keeps the loot? Under Belgian law, if no rightful heir makes a valid claim within five years, the property owner, the construction company, and the actual discoverers could get a cut — meaning student Kobe could be sitting on a life-changing payout before he even graduates.
